The Many Gifts in a "Failure"
If you've been reading my blogs for any length of time, you know that much of what I write in them comes from personal experiences I've had in life and business, both good and bad. Such is the case for an article that I wrote for the current issue of Massage & Bodywork Magazine. This article is quite a bit different than anything else I've ever had published in a professional journal as it in fact shares the difficult but hopefully inspirational story of my own business "failure" and some of the gifts that have come from it.This article was truly the most difficult thing I've ever written - and one of the scariest things to put on display for the whole world to read. Yet by doing so I've gotten some amazing emails and comments from those who have read it, some at just the right moment in their lives. Here are a couple that really touched me:
"I just wanted to say thank you for your recent article in the Massage & Bodywork magazine on "I survived the Recession". It came at the perfect time. Tomorrow is my last day for my small day spa...Even though it hurts very much, and I have felt like I failed at times... I know something good is around the corner; and I'm relieved and looking forward to it....Thank you for sharing your heart and your story; it was very encouraging and uplifting! I felt a big hug from you when I read it!"
"Thank you so much for writing that article. It was so honest and inspiring...I too am doing things I never thought I'd have to. I have been through something similar to this before, and have seen this before, but now from another perspective. Thank you for being brave enough to share this story with the world."

As I said in the article, my goal in sharing my experiences both good and bad is to give hope and inspiration to others who may be experiencing a tough time financially or otherwise. Knowledge and wisdom is wasted if it isn't shared and I hope you will feel you've gained something worthwhile through my literary contribution

I enjoyed your article and Massage and Bodywork. These economic times are hitting all of us quite hard. I like that you were able to adjust to your changing situation and even learn from seeing the problems of others that your problems weren't that bad. I worked with children with cerebral palsy for many years and working with them helped me keep my problems in prospective.
