An Accountant's Perspective on Independent Contractors
In my ongoing quest to help people understand the laws and regulations about using independent contractors in their spas and salons, I ran across this blog by Larry Kopsa, CPA. Kopsa Otte CPA's have been called the “financial and tax go-to-professionals” for Salons and Spas. Larry Kopsa CPA has been in accounting and tax since 1972, specializing in the area of Salons and Distributors for the last 20 years. For more information about Kopsa Otte services, please contact Larry via e-mail at lkopsa@kopsaotte.com or call 800-975-4829. If you call him, please be sure to tell him that you heard about his firm through Felicia Brown of Spalutions.

Click here for the whole article. And if you are currently working as or hiring independent contractors, please be sure you are in compliance of the guidelines.
In the next few weeks I'll be interviewing Larry through my free online teleseminar series. Hope you can join us for the call! Details to follow soon.
Here is another excerpt from Larry Kopsa's blog for spas and salons on the issue of ICs and the IRS.
"IRS is on the warpath with new weapons for tracking down companies that violate rules used to determine whether workers are employees or independent contractors for tax purposes. The result: More employment tax audits in a few months after IRS generates more leads. Take a look at what's in IRS' arsenal..."

Do you have questions about your business structure, marketing, or general operations? If so, send them to me at Felicia@spalutions.com. I'll publish your question and my response in my blog along with whatever contact information you feel comfortable with me sharing (name, business name, city/state and/or website address or I can post it under as pseudonym if you'd rather remain anonymous). Then you can get a little PR for your business and others can benefit from our exchange. Thanks!
