Make Your Marketing Simple
Just the other day I was talking with a consulting client about her planned newsletter. She is thinking of making the switch from a pre-written newsletter service to Constant Contact, the email newsletter template service that I used. The cost is a bit less than what she has been doing. But she will have to create the newsletter content and was a bit stressed about how she was going to find the time to write "all those articles."
My advice to her is to KISS - Keep It Simple Sweetheart! While I know she likes providing a lot of useful information and content in her newsletters, it may not make sense to do so. As many people just scan their emails and put-off reading (or delete) anything that is too bulky, paring the newsletter content down a bit may get her a better readership and overall response.
Here is an example of what she might do. As part of our work together I've helped her get set-up with a marketing calendar. In it she has a different theme or special every month. Let's say for June the theme is Happy Feet. She could write one short article article (or quote an article) about the benefits of Reflexology, Foot Detox Baths or Pedicures. Then as a special (that is also highlighted in the newsletter), she could offer a discount or gift free with purchase for all foot-related services in the month of June.
Another one of my clients decided to keep her newsletter really simple. She just sends a positive encouraging thought or story to her clients each month. It is uplifing and beautiful - and is a real gift comapred to a lot of email. Her clients love it! And she is staying in her clients minds, hearts and calendars just by sharing something that she thinks will make them smile.
So what can you do to make your own marketing simple? Start by deciding what the goal is for your business and the marketing you're doing for the business. Then make it easy for your clients to understand exactly how and why they should take action. Don't make them guess what you are trying to say or make it difficult for them to act on your recommendations. Keep it simple and everyone will be better off!
