Happy Holidays

As I sit here on Christmas Eve with my cat on my lap (she is trying to help me type), I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Not one for big holiday bashes or other typical traditions, today I will spend somewhat quietly, attending to a few errands and details before my in-laws arrive this evening. We'll keep it simple...drink some (spiked) egg nog, watch a movie, maybe take a drive to look at some holiday lights or even go to church. But more than anything we will just enjoy being together as a family and appreciate the inner gifts we all bring to each other.

As my own family is long past gone, it is a bittersweet time of year for me. But as much as I miss my parents and grandparents, I want to appreciate the people that will be here with me today that love me like their own. David, my husband, for truly accepting me "as is" and for putting up with my inner (and outer) grinch. Beth, my mother-in-law for loving me as soon as she met me and embracing me as if I were her own daughter. Sam, my father-in-law, for making me laugh and for enjoying my "words of wisdom" and almost all of my cooking. And of course for my dogs and cat, for providing the shelter and comfort of unconditional love all year long.

My holiday wish for you is the same I wish for myself....to stop focusing on what does or doesn't show up in your stocking or under the tree and instead to look at or find the sometimes hidden or forgotten gifts that are a part of your life every day. Be giving of your love and time to those you care about and remember what is truly important to you. Lastly, no matter what, be good to yourself in all you do and be willing to go after exactly what it is you want in life. You deserve it!

Many blessings to all of you for the holidays and the New Year. Namaste.
