Happy Thanksgiving
Just a quick note for Turkey Day to offer my thanks to my clients, friends, readers, God and the world in general for giving me such a wonderful life. As I sit at my overcrowded desk in my messy home office, my sweet husband sleeps peacefully a few steps away as my comical dogs lounge about our living room. And my little tabby cat watches the squirrels play from the back my desk chair that I am sitting upon.
My inbox, week and home have been full of wonderful exchanges with friends, family and colleagues that I appreciate and cherish. Likewise, this month and for the many years that I have been alive, my life is full of opportunities for growth, prosperity, learning, love and thankfulness. And I am lucky enough to see and appreciate many of them.
As I slowly begin my day today, I want to offer this one thought...what are the unseen gifts in your life? Some blessings are more obvious than others, such as a big Thanksgiving Dinner or a loving family. But what about things that aren't obvious? As I think back to past holidays and times, I think of moments of loneliness that now really help me appreciate times with people I really care about. I think about getting a flat tire...and then being able to accept the kindness of a stranger that came to my rescue. I think about the deals or projects at work that "failed" which made me push myself to become better at what I do and offer or to be creative about finding better solutions to the problems at hand.
These are just a few examples from my own life and experience and things for which I had to look a little harder than usual to see the blessings in disguise. I am so incredibly thankful for these kinds of opportunities as much or more than the oportunities that just fell into my lap or the days that went by without a hitch, probably because they helped me to learn what I was really made of and to become deeply sympathetic and compassionate to others. Again I ask you to look into your own life and find the hidden gifts that lurk amoungst your sadness, disappointments and "failures." You may be surprised at what you find.
Many blessings to you and your loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving!
"Give thanks on Thanksgiving, of course. Yet it isn't just on this one day we should be grateful, but every day. For day in and day out, the smallest treasures that everyday life brings us add up to a monumental sum."
