Saying Yes to Success

Are you one of those people who’s waiting for your life to be a success? Do you think getting that new job, bigger house or faster car will make you feel, finally, that you’ve made it to the top? Now let me ask you something else. Are you really willing to let it happen? That may seem like a strange question to some of you, but believe it or not, many of us SAY we want to succeed, but ACT like we do not.

Here are a few examples of what I mean. You are trying to get out of debt, but continue to use credit cards or spend beyond your means. You want to get a promotion at work, but keep putting off the additional training you need to be considered for the better job. You want to have a better relationship with your spouse, but continually “forget” to do the things he or she really appreciates. And believe me, there are countless other ways we set ourselves up for failure.

Realize that where you are and what you are doing in your life now is a product of all the choices and decisions you’ve made in your life so far. Similarly, the choices and actions of today will create the realities of tomorrow. So, if the choices and actions you’ve been taking have not created the results you’d like, maybe it is time for a change.

Now that I’ve got you thinking a little bit, consider something else. How are you already successful? What have you done (or are you doing) that you consider achievements? Have you completed high school, college, or other higher levels of education? Do you have successful relationships with your family or a significant other? Are you putting money away for a big goal such as a dream vacation, new home or car, or for retirement? Do you give back to your community through volunteering or donations? Have you trained for an athletic event or competition? Are you a good friend?

As you can see, there is more to success than just getting a promotion. Undoubtedly, you have achieved many more things than you probably realized. Now it is time to acknowledge yourself for what you’ve done and set the stage for the future. Confidence breeds confidence and one success leads to another. Allow yourself to bask in your own glory and then do what it takes to create your next success. I know you can do it.
